Can I still become a valedictorian at my college if I am not in the Honors Program?
I will be going to Ohio State University this fall and since I am not going to be in Honors, do I still have a chance to become valedictorian? I didn’t try hard in high school(I was an A student then Junior year I got lazy and become a B student) and I was just shy of being invited to the Honors…so could I still be valedictorian when I graduate in college? My major in chemical engineering if that makes a difference.
They don’t have valedictorians at larger higher-education institutions. They instead pick a distinguished student speaker and grades are only one of several factors that are weighted in the formula to be selected (others are usually oral speaking ability, community service, personal hardship, etc). This is done because certain majors are statistically harder to earn superior grades in (such as engineering) and the fact you have non-traditional students attending trying to juggle a full time work schedule, family, etc with school and that’s a thousand times harder to do versus someone who has no job and can devote all their time to study.
