What is more exciting, chemical or electrical engineer?
I’m in college and I’m trying to decide whether I want to do chemical or electrical engineering. I’ve done research and I enjoy chemistry and physics, and my main decision maker I think will be job opportunities, since I’m willing to work hard for a degree in either. I do not see myself working in a plant, but rather in Research and Development, and I really would rather be doing something more interesting than working in a factory. From my research, I find electrical to be much more into that. Examples of electrical are weapon designs, robotics, lasers, sophisticated control systems, etc., but I can not really find as much on chemical. What are some interesting job opportunities in chemical engineering that are more in the field of R&D? (I do realize it is difficult to get these R&D jobs and that you have to probably go through less interesting jobs, but I’m just trying to find prospect jobs.)
I don’t know too much about chemical engineering, but I have a degree in electrical engineering. I graduated in May 2008. I was lucky to find a great job at a nuclear engineering company. We also have chem engs too. Nuclear is a good place because there will def. be no lay offs and nuclear is growing so much! The nuclear field is always hiring, and pays very well. I do not work in a plant, but we have a lot of nuclear plants all over the country that are our clients. We design and solve problems in all aspects of a nuclear plant.
This is a good place to start, because you should first know more about the field that you want to do R&D in, and then move on from there.
There is always room for R&D in the nuclear field.
