Are Mechanical engineers having a hard time to find a job?

My husband was laid off 3 weeks ago, and he is sending resumes, but he always worked in construction project management, and he doesn’t seem to find very good opportunities out there, but there are some others but no in what he has experience with. He is going to take the PE for Florida in april 2010.
If you can share your experience or give us a tip would be nice. I have a good job and don’t want to relocate. We live in Tampa.
