Job prospects for PhD mechanical engineering?

I’m in the middle of my PhD in mechanical engineering from a top 10 grad program (not quite MIT, but I did get admissions there for MS). I’m just wondering what sort of job prospects there are out there (and salaries) in industry (not really interested in academia) and how difficult it would be to get a job, especially in this economic downturn. I really have no clue about this, and I can’t be ignorant of this forever! I’m also more interested in robotics, are there many jobs in this field? Hopefully some of the more experienced people out there can answer!
